Miguel Martinez is a conga percussion player who was born and raised in East Oakland, CA. His music journey started at a young age watching his 4 older brothers jamming with the Escovedos and the Flores brothers in the backyard. Miguel listened to many music genres but he gravitated to Salsa and Latin Rock the most.

His music journey started at a young age watching his 4 older brothers jamming with the Escovedos and the Flores brothers in the backyard. Miguel listened to many music genres but he gravitated to Salsa and Latin Rock the most. His major music influences were local Bay Area legends Santana, Malo, Azteca and, of course, the Escovedo family. Miguel has played with Mio Flores and the Habana All Stars, Malo and the Franco Brothers. He currently plays with Los Cochinos and Patron Latin Rhythms as well as his own band, Latin Groove.
I began playing drums at age 12. At around age 20, I started to play in Top 40 bands like Common Pleasure and Klick. After several years playing in Top 40 bands and gigs in Las Vegas (where I met my wife!), I started to play for our church. It took some time, but I eventually started playing for bands again.
I was born and raised in San Francisco during the height of the SF music explosion which included Santana, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane (later renamed Jefferson Starship), Tower of Power, Cold Blood, Sly and the Family Stone, Malo, Dakila, Graham Central Station, Journey, and so many more. All of these bands were a huge influence in musical growth and development. I began playing drums at age 12. At around age 20, I started to play in Top 40 bands like Common Pleasure and Klick. Now I drum for Patrón Latin Rhythms, Groove Ride, Los Mendoza y Friends, Phillip Retamoza & the Mission, and Soucano. I also sub for Funky Latin Orchestra, the Penetrators, Funky Tim & the Merlots, and Lumbre.
Growing up in SF's Mission District in the 1960's, Mom was always singing. Dad played his guitar and spun his vinyl records of Latin Jazz, Mariachi & Romantica's on Saturday mornings. At the age of 14, I developed an interest in playing the bass guitar. Thanks to our family friends, I was loaned a bass guitar and there the journey began.

I entered many Battle of The Bands contests of the time, starting with "Ravas" and "ZORRO" with former MALO singer/frontman, Arcelio Garcia. "The Innovations", "Full Swing", while living in Honolulu from 1978-1989, a variety of local Hawaiian bands, "RAMOCUE", "BUENO" with former MALO alumni's, Tony Menjivar, Gabe Manzo & Aki Starr, "CROSSFIRE" with original MALO member, Leo Rosales, "SACRED FIRE BAND" & now... so appreciative to be welcomed into the late Delbert Ojeda's "Patrón Latin Rhythms" family since 2018.

The better my voice got, the better musicians I was able to play with playing countless shows until I joined my first all original band, Krystal Jem, and performed at top night clubs all over the bay area. In 1983, I left the Bay Area for Hollywood where I trained with world renowned vocal coaches Ron Anderson and Elizabeth Sabine.

In 1985, my band recorded a demo deal and played at world famous nightclubs like The Rocky, The Whiskey A Go Go, Gazzaris and The Troubadour. In 1996, I released a bilingual CD with a band called Power The Making of Machine! In 2000, I relocated back to the Bay Area and by chance a close friend knew of a latin band searching for a bilingual singer. In 2001, I joined the 16-piece band Mystique playing festivals and clubs all over Northern California. It was here I felt the magic meeting top latin rock musicians from the Bay Area.
